Yellow Brick Road

Witi Ihimaera is from Gisborne and was the first Maori to publish both a book of short stories and a novel. Hes had five books of his adapted into films.

When I hear "Yellow Brick Road" I think of a road made of brick, rich people driveways. Or "The Wizard Of Oz".

Matiu thinks because Wellington is more wealthier then Waituhi, that is why his dad moved them for the money.

The difference between the two places is that Waituhi has more Maoris and Wellington has more Pakehas.

Matius dad told Uncle Same that he wants to start a new life, and give his kids a better upbringing because he knows what its like to grow up with nothing.

Matiu starts off by being excited of moving, but then as they get there he slowly becomes nervous, as to if they could or would ever go back.

Witi Ihimaera used "Yellow Brick Road" also known from the book "The Wizard Of Oz", as a way of saying this is their journey and to keep going, soon they'll be there, "follow, follow, follow".
